Beer Battered Fish & Chips

Mushy peas has never been one of my ‘must have’ accompaniments to fish and chips but that’s because I’m not a fan of marrowfat peas.  This super simple recipe using frozen peas is much tastier in my opinion and healthier too.  I’ll blog the beer battered cod next…

Ingredients – Serves 2

  • 150g frozen peas
  • knob of butter
  • 1 large banana shallot or 1/4 of red onion finely chopped
  • 1 small clove of garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp creme fraiche (optional)
  • salt and pepper to taste

Method

  1. Steam the peas for a few minutes and set to one side.
  2. Heat a non stick pan to a medium heat and add the butter, then fry the onion and garlic on a low to medium heat for a few minutes until softened.
  3. Add the peas to the onion and garlic and saute for another few minutes.
  4. Take off the heat and transfer to a blender, or use a stick blender to whizz up coarsely.
  5. Stir in the creme fraiche and season to taste.
